No prior research experience is required! Come with an open mind and a willingness to learn - we will train you. However, some projects may require specialized skills including coding or experience with text analysis.
What kind of research does the SID Lab do?
The SID Lab does lab studies, field studies, and online studies around the topic of social identity and how it impacts interpersonal interactions.
What do RAs in the SID Lab do?
Research Assistants do a variety of tasks including editing and analyzing audio/visual and physiological data, being a part of study research teams, conducting literature reviews, and more. These responsibilities are all crucial to our lab’s projects!
What does the lab expect from RAs?
We expect our RA's to be responsible, reliable, communicative, respectful, and kind. We are looking for RAs that can commit 7-10 hours per week in the lab.
Can I do independent research?
Students who have been working in the lab for at least a year can consider doing an honors thesis with Kiara.
After determining if a thesis is right for you, you will have to apply to Psychology Honors and the PSYC 89 course. You must declare their intent to pursue honors research before the end of the second week of the Fall term of your Senior year. More information can be found here: Psychology Honors. Additionally, you will need to apply for thesis funding: Honors Thesis Grant | Undergraduate Advising and Research.
Do we get paid?
Yes! If you are hired to the SID Lab, depending on when in the quarter you are being hired, you may have to work on a volunteer basis for one term. After that, it will be your responsibility to apply for funding from URAD.
